LTK 25mg contains Losartan Potassium 25mg, an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) manufactured by Unison Pharmaceuticals. It is used as the starting dose for high blood pressure (hypertension) and for the early management of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes. The 25mg dose is appropriate for first-time ARB users, elderly patients, and those also taking diuretics who may be at greater risk of blood pressure drops with higher starting doses.
Losartan works by blocking the AT1 subtype of the angiotensin II receptor, preventing the hormone angiotensin II from tightening the blood vessels and triggering aldosterone-driven fluid retention. By disrupting this pathway, LTK 25mg relaxes the arteries, reduces peripheral resistance, and lowers blood pressure without affecting heart rate. Importantly, it does not cause the dry cough that causes many patients to stop ACE inhibitor therapy.
The 25mg dose is typically a 3 to 4 week starting point before reassessment. If blood pressure remains above target, the dose is usually increased to 50mg.
Precautions: Avoid potassium supplements and potassium-based salt substitutes β Losartan can raise blood potassium levels and the combination increases risk. NSAIDs can blunt the antihypertensive effect and raise the risk of kidney injury. Losartan is contraindicated in pregnancy β documented fetal harm means it must be stopped immediately if pregnancy occurs. Monitor kidney function and electrolytes during treatment.
Store below 30Β°C in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What is LTK Losartan 25mg used for?
LTK 25mg contains Losartan Potassium 25mg, an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat high blood pressure and protect kidneys in diabetic patients. 25mg is the typical starting dose.
Q2: How does Losartan 25mg work?
Losartan blocks the angiotensin II receptor, preventing blood vessel constriction. This relaxes the arteries, reduces blood pressure, and decreases the workload on the heart.
Q3: Does Losartan cause a dry cough?
No. Unlike ACE inhibitors, Losartan does not cause a persistent dry cough, making it a preferred alternative for patients who cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors.
Q4: Can I take LTK 25mg with food?
Yes. Losartan can be taken with or without food. Take it at the same time each day for consistent blood pressure control.
Q5: How quickly does LTK 25mg lower blood pressure?
A measurable reduction in blood pressure occurs within a week. The full antihypertensive effect is typically established after 3 to 6 weeks of daily use.
Q6: What are the common side effects of LTK 25mg?
Side effects are uncommon at 25mg. They may include mild dizziness, fatigue, and occasional upper respiratory symptoms.
Q7: Is Losartan safe for diabetic patients?
Yes. Losartan is frequently used in diabetic patients for both blood pressure control and kidney protection by reducing protein in the urine.
Q8: Should I avoid potassium supplements with LTK 25mg?
Yes. Losartan can raise potassium levels. Avoid potassium supplements and potassium-rich salt substitutes unless specifically instructed by your doctor.
Q9: Can I stop LTK 25mg suddenly?
Do not stop without consulting your doctor. Blood pressure may rise if treatment is stopped abruptly. Your doctor will advise on how to safely adjust therapy.
Q10: Is Losartan safe to use with NSAIDs like ibuprofen?
Caution is advised. NSAIDs can reduce Losartan's blood pressure-lowering effect and increase the risk of kidney injury. Discuss with your doctor before taking NSAIDs regularly.
Q11: Is LTK 25mg safe to use during pregnancy?
No. Losartan is contraindicated during pregnancy as it can cause serious harm to the developing fetus. Inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant while on treatment.
Q12: How should I store LTK Losartan 25mg?
Store at room temperature below 30Β°C in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
